This is the piece I started tonight. Total time so far is about 4 hours or so. I think that it is off to a good start. I am ordering the frame for it tonight so I can show it with the others from this series.

I begun this last night and think it is off to a nice start. After 12 straight hours of painting I am wiped out. Mentally, typing is proving to be complicated. Everything that has colour on it in this photo was painted today. Plus I started another painting as well. See next post/

This is a new work I have begun based on a few concepts I am experimenting with. primarily I am simply trying out different techniques that I have been stealing from masters and having fun building up dense and colourful Glazes.
I have just built a new website, www.fineartvaughan.net. Check it out, there are links there to all of my flickr pages, etc.
Plan on updating more regularly now. Hope you will comment on my work.

the never got along, stage 2
So, yay, I got to do some painting tonight. This piece is getting strangely impressionistic, but what can you do. It has all of the elements needed to be an impressionistic work; texture, flattening of space, photographic like cropping. I think it is going to be a good piece when done. It is going to be my mum's b'day present, since I can't afford to buy her anything. The composition looks funny right now because of the cropping, but one I add value to the back of the table, I think that the lighting will fix all of that.

So, this is feeling pretty finished. I am enjoying that you can see some of the painting that was underneath coming through in some parts and that I have left a large portion of the shirt translucent. But, I may work more on it, still I am pretty happy with it right now.

So, I have finished most of the background now. I really wanted it to have a wash look to it. Usually I spend great pains perfecting the textures of the fabric and its values. But I wanted this background to be painterly. Next I will work on the figure more.

Wade as Saint John the Baptist in the Wild.jpg
Dec. 3rd, 2005 | 06:35 pm
Started this today. It is one of our models Wade as Saint John the Baptist, a la Caravaggio. It is Water Colour and Ink on Illustration board. I am just experimenting with the background to see if I can figure out what it is supposed to be. Because I really do know.
